As part of our commitment to a range of measures to reduce the environmental impact of the Airport’s operation, London City Airport's surface access strategy is to actively encourage its staff, passengers and visitors to use sustainable modes of transport to access the Airport site.
Surface access at LCY is monitored and managed through the LCY Travel Plan (2011).
The LCY Travel Plan includes targets to reduce the number of single occupancy vehicle movements to and from the Airport, thereby reducing the impact of the Airport’s staff, passengers and visitors on the local road network. The Travel Plan also outlines initiatives LCY will implement to achieve these targets. To ensure compliance with the LCY Travel Plan, the Airport has appointed a Travel Plan Coordinator to oversee the implementation of measures set out in the Plan, along with monitoring the effectiveness of such measures in place. The Travel Plan Coordinator is also responsible for liaising with external companies onsite at the Airport to ensure sustainable travel methods are continuously promoted to all staff.
London City Airport encourages passengers to travel to and from the Airport efficiently and to use public transport whenever possible. This is particularly true on days when air pollution levels are high, or are predicted to be high, as emissions from road transport make a significant contribution to poor air quality conditions in Greater London.
