Fun in the Sun at London City Airport’s Annual Fun Day
Visitors to the eleventh annual London City Airport Fun Day enjoyed a spectacular afternoon as the sun made a welcome guest appearance at the weekend. The annual event attracted its highest ever visitor numbers with over 15,000 people enjoying the activities.
There was no shortage of attractions to keep visitors amused, with infectious beats by the University of East London’s Barking Bateria Samba Band to the spectacular Air Show that provided visitors the opportunity to see rare and historic aircraft circle the skies over East London.
A first this year was the finals of the Karaoke competition that has been running in local pubs and clubs for the last month. After a close sing-out the prize of a champagne sightseeing flight over London by executive jet was won by Kiera Murphy.
The chief executive of London City Airport, Richard Gooding and the Mayor of Newham, Sir Robin Wales, were in for a galactic surprise as they officially opened this year’s festivities. Darth Vader took over the proceedings of Fun Day as his Imperial Stormtroopers marched their captors off the stage.
Richard Gooding comments, “This year’s Fun Day was bigger and better than ever before. We offer our heartfelt thanks to all members of the community for coming together and making Fun Day a huge success,”
The total amount raised on behalf of Richard House, the airport's chosen charity, is still being counted and will be announced shortly.
London City Airport extends its gratitude to the many sponsors of this year's Fun Day, without whom the day could not have been such a success. A full list of sponsors and exhibitors can be found at http://www.lcy.co.uk/funday
