London City to Berlin Tegel: Lufthansa’s New Capital Connection

Services between London City and Berlin commence twice daily on 14 January 2008

The German capital Berlin is the latest destination offered by Lufthansa’s growing flight network from London City Airport. Commencing on 14 January 2008, Lufthansa will offer a non-stop flight to Berlin-Tegel twice daily, which will be the fastest connection available for passengers travelling between the centres of both cities. For the summer timetable the frequency will be increased to three times a day.

“Following the positive economic climate in the UK and Europe, we are discovering a strong demand for new city routes serving the mobility needs of UK and German business travellers”, said Marianne Sammann, Lufthansa’s General Manager UK & Ireland. “Berlin, as Europe’s new conference and exhibition metropolis, is now just around the corner from London’s financial district and the perfect destination for this speedy new service.“

The BAe146-200 jet will accommodate up to 89 passengers for the 100 minute flight. The morning flight LH 4839 departs London City at 09:40 and arrives in Berlin at 12:25 (daily, except Sundays), the evening flight LH 4843 departs the docklands at 18:05 and touches down at 20:50 (daily, except Saturdays).  Flight LH 4838 leaves TXL at 08:30 arriving in LCY at 09:10  daily, except Sundays, and Flight LH 4842 leaves TXL at 16:55 and arrives at 17:35 daily, except Saturdays.

Richard Gooding OBE, Chief Executive of London City Airport commented: “The launch of the Berlin-Tegel route is exciting news for London City Airport and perfectly complements the range of German destinations available to the business traveller. We are very proud of our long-standing 14 year relationship with Lufthansa and Star Alliance, with successful existing routes to Munich, Dusseldorf, Hamburg and Frankfurt currently operating out of London City Airport.”

Berlin has recently emerged as a leading European centre for conferences and exhibitions. More than 50 large trade fairs and numerous international conferences are held in the city annually. This new service will provide travellers with speedy access to these events or to the European headquarters of various multinational companies.
London City Airport provides a quick and efficient service for business travellers with just a 20-minute check in time for passengers traveling with hand luggage only. The Docklands Light Railways provides an easy transfer to the business district of Canary Wharf in just 15 minutes or Bank (the City) in 22 minutes.

Effective immediately the new flights can be booked online at www.lufthansa.com. One-way fares in Economy Class start from £45, while return fares will be available from £79 (including taxes). Business Class return fares are offered from £729 (including taxes).
