London City Airport and CityJet for Air France partner with Offscreen student expedition

The Offscreen Education Programme brings the world into the classroom by following the journey of students from London and the Middle East. The students had the opportunity to experience each others’ lifestyles, traditions and culture and in 2007 eight students from East London visited Oman and Dubai. Following the success of last year’s expedition, this year eight students from the Middle East along with teacher chaperones travelled across England, Scotland and Wales in search of an authentic picture of UK culture.

London City Airport hosted the event to celebrate the success of the project. The airport’s Community Relations Team greeted the latest students during their exploration of Britain. After the celebratory event, the group of explorers flew to Edinburgh from London City Airport courtesy of CityJet for Air France. From Edinburgh the group then continued their adventure by visiting many other UK destinations including Inverness, Manchester and Wales.

Offscreen Director, Stephen Stapleton said “Eight students took part in the latest expedition but their experiences have been shared by thousands of other students through a dedicated website which includes blogs, a photo gallery and direct communication with use of the latest satellite and web technology.”
The students who were chosen for their artistic flair have been charting their journey thought artwork, writing, photography and film depicting their thoughts, feelings emotions throughout their adventure. A display of a selection of their work will be exhibited in the terminal building of London City Airport from Tuesday 26 August until Tuesday 23 September.
