London City Airport this week opened its new facility for onsite car hire companies Avis, Europcar, and Hertz. As part of the airport’s £7 million terminal reconfiguration project, the car hire facility is now located adjacent to the terminal building.
Richard Gooding, chief executive of London City Airport, commented: “The reconfiguration of the airport terminal is a significant project. The relocation of the car hire facility marks the first phase in this project, which will see more space and comfort for travelling passengers.”
The terminal project involves several different phases. In the spring additional columns will be installed in the main terminal concourse which will support an expanded first floor across the void that is now the atrium. This new floor will become part of the new extended departure lounge.
In line with this, the existing Meridian Line restaurant will close to allow for the re-provision of a new passenger search facility - double the size of the existing area. New catering facilities will be provided in the space previously occupied by the car hire companies.
The car hire companies have extended their operating hours making it more easily accessible to local residents and businesses. The car hire operating hours are Monday to Friday from 07.00 until 21.30; Saturday from 07.00 until 16.00; Sunday from 10.00 until 21.30.
