During February, London City Airport supported the development and delivery of the Beckton Community Forum “Love Your Environment” Event. The event, organised by Active Community Team volunteers, hosted stalls and activities at Kingsford Community School to help local people learn more about their environment and how to take best care of it.
As a large local business with a strong focus on environmental sustainability, London City Airport hosted a stall with information about the environmental initiatives that form part of the airport’s day to day operation. Local residents came away with more facts on airport initiatives around waste, water, noise, air quality and energy and were also able to win one of two luxury hampers donated by the airport through the recycling competition.
Since 1989 London City Airport has worked closely with Community Forums in the Royal Docks and their predecessor organisations, the Area Teams. From 2000 to 2007, the airport was a member of the Community Forum Steering Group, contributing to debate and discussion about the local area and advising neighbours on airport operations.
London City Airport staff volunteers now participate in both the Royal Docks and Beckton Active Community Teams, which aim to make each area a healthier, safer and more interesting place to live.
Through participation in Active Community Teams since 2007, London City Airport has helped to develop and implement events and has donated more than ten luxury hampers and a variety of other airport goodies to local prize winners.
A Beckton Resident, who attended the most recent ‘Love your Environment’ event said, “it’s great to see the airport here at the event engaging with local people and running competitions to win great prizes”.
