London City Airport Doubles Up

Passengers travelling through London City Airport will notice renovation works underway in the terminal concourse.   The Airport is investing £7 million in infrastructure enhancements to further increase the size of the security search area as well as enlarging the passenger departure lounge providing travellers with more space while enhancing the retail and catering offerings.

The development works commenced early spring with phase one scheduled to be completed by the end of July.  The first phase sees the fitting of 26 piles with 70 tons of steel columns and beams spanning across the concourse all in preparation for the installation of the 2nd floor.

The renovation works take place during the airport’s nightly and weekend closure times to ensure there is no disruption to passengers. The terminal expansion is scheduled to be completed by the beginning of 2011 and will provide a faster and more convenient service to travellers.

Richard Gooding OBE, Chief Executive London City Airport commented; “The Airport is investing a significant amount in the terminal infrastructure to maintain and enhance its high level of customer service. This investment will continue to uphold the Airport’s customer service quality.”

The reconfiguration of London City Airport’s terminal is being project managed by Atkins Design & Engineering with the construction work contracted to AA Lovegrove.

London City Airport is the UK's leading business airport serving over 30 destinations across the UK, Europe and the USA and connections to the rest of the world through major European hubs.
