Best UK Airport reveals its success story

London City Airport presented its recipe for success at the UK Ambassador’s residence in Madrid Spain, as it shared the airports innovative approach and pivotal role in the development of East London, in celebration of the doubling of passengers visiting London via London City Airport.

Speaking at the event, Chief Executive Officer, Richard Gooding said: “East London is a thriving district which has seen significant regeneration and development over the past decades. The airport has been at the core of this rejuvenation, generating inward investment while delivering a leading service to some of the most renowned organizations in the world.

“London City Airport has created a niche product, with its close proximity to the centre, quick rail and ground connectivity and fast track service, making the airport a popular choice for the time sensitive passenger.”

The UK Ambassador for Spain, Giles Paxman said: “London remains a leading global city and hub for commerce and is one of the world’s most exciting cities. London City Airport is now a vital gateway to London for business and leisure tourism and continues to be one of the key drivers in the growth and transformation of East London.”

London City Airport, the preferred gateway to the Capital, is 3 km from London’s acclaimed financial, business and government districts, 7 km from the main tourist attractions and 3.2 km from the site of the 2012 Olympic Games. Serving over 52,000 passengers weekly the Airport boasts the lowest check-in times compared to any other airport in London. Direct train links from the airport run into Bank station serving the City, on the Docklands Light Railway

London City Airport, in collaboration with British Airways, recently launched its first joint marketing campaign in Madrid and Barcelona to increase awareness of the airport’s central location and proximity to the heart of London. Launching with a Facebook page in Spanish, a website landing page specifically for the London traveller, a club for secretaries and English breakfast delivered to travel agents were supported by direct mail, advertising and radio campaigns.

Passengers travelling from Madrid and Barcelona can experience the new BA City Flyer Embraer 190 aircraft, with flights from Barcelona operating once daily Monday to Sunday, and Madrid operating twice daily Monday to Friday, with one inbound Saturday departure and one outbound Sunday departure.

Editors note

London City Airport (LCY) is the only airport situated in London itself, just two miles from the site of the 2012 Olympic Games, three miles from Canary Wharf, seven miles from the City and 10 miles from London’s West End – linked to all via the LCY Docklands Light Railway station. Welcoming over 3 million passengers in 2011, LCY is not only uniquely convenient, but offers a uniquely rapid transit, through check-in and security to the departure lounge and gate, of around 20 minutes. 12 airlines fly out of LCY, serving over 40 destinations including Dublin, Madrid and Geneva – the latest additions for 2012 are Aberdeen, Venice, Basel, Mahon, Angers and Quimper. LCY is on Twitter (@londoncityairport) and further information about flights, destinations and airport services can be found at www.londoncityairport.com.
