The London City Airport Fun Day Air Show

Date: 19/06/2007

The Air Show at London City Airport’s annual Fun Day promises to be a spectacular event this year.  Residents of Newham and further afield need only look above from 3.30pm on 7 July to see a sensational display of aircraft, new and old, fill the skies.

Amongst the striking extravaganza on the day will be an aerobatic display from the Grace Spitfire ML407, flown by the UK’s only female Spitfire pilot. The Team Guinot Wing Walking Display Team combine the latest safety technology with the courage and daring of early 20s aviators, entertaining crowds with a taste of their barnstorming magic, followed by the Skytrack Parachute Freefall Team – the only all-girl team in the UK.  The YAK9 and Mustang P51D “Janie” represent stunning aircraft from the WW2 era whilst the Pitts Special will perform an amazing array of loops and barrels. The Dennis Kenyon Aerobatic Helicopter Display is the most amazing helicopter display ever seen, flying low level with amazing accuracy. The world’s premiere aerobatic aircraft, the CAP 232, will be on display and the SWIFT Aerobatic Glider, which is towed into the air with a specialised tow plane, provides an opportunity for the glider team to defy convention. The glider follows the tug through aileron rolls, tight turns, wingovers and zoom climbs, all performed at low level in front of the crowd.

The Air Show attracts over 10,000 visitors and forms a major part of the airport’s Fun Day that is now in its eleventh year. Entrance is free to all visitors and funds raised from attractions are donated to the airport’s chosen charity, Richard House, the first children’s hospice in London.
