SCOTAIRWAYS & BRITISH EUROPEAN NEW CODE-SHARE PARTNERSHIP LINKS LONDON CITY AIRPORT -SCOTLAND

Date: 10/09/2001
London City Airport witnessed the launch of the new code-share agreements between ScotAirways and British European as the 07:40 Edinburgh flight departed London City Airport on Monday 3 September.

These code-share agreements promote the convenience of flying to the heart of Scotland, with ScotAirways and British European now jointly operating flights to Edinburgh, Glasgow and, from 10 September, Inverness.

Merlyn Suckling, Director of ScotAirways said, “ We are very pleased with the formation of the partnership between ourselves and British European, it is a very positive development. It means we now provide an enhanced schedule, which is of benefit to our customers providing them maximum flexibility when organising their travel arrangements. At the same time our customers can now use London City Airport as a hub to travel to a range of onward destinations.”

John Hanlon, Director of Airline Alliances & International Sales for British European said, “British European and ScotAirways are the two largest operators at London City Airport and over recent years have played a key role in the development of the airport. The code-share partnership demonstrates that both the airlines are continuing to support the development of the airport to become THE London airport for the business traveller.”

Charles Buchanan, Director of Business Development for London City Airport said, “The code-share agreements are excellent news for passengers and mean we are now the only UK airport to serve five Scottish cities. With 24 flights in each direction per day we now have more flights to Scotland than to any other destination.”

He added, “Air travel between London and Scotland has never been easier; flight frequency is a critical factor in determining travel choice for the business traveller. Last year over 125,000 passengers travelled from London City to Scotland. By yesterday we had already seen a staggering 183,328 passengers this year pass through London City travelling to Scotland. With the introduction of these code share agreements, London City is now becoming the number one choice for business travel between Scotland and London.”
