TELL US WHAT YOU KNOW…..LONDON CITY AIRPORT LAUNCHES AIRPORT HISTORY APPEAL

Date: 30/01/2006

London City Airport launches ‘The Airport History Appeal’. Now 18 years old and continuing to grow, the Airport has experienced many momentous occasions as well as more challenging times. Moving forward, the Airport has launched this Appeal to capture the true story of London City Airport.

Richard Gooding, Managing Director of London City Airport, who has been with the company for ten years and has many memories of his own to share, has launched the Appeal to ensure that the history of the Airport is properly recorded: “We still have a number of people working at the Airport who have been with us since the beginning, when the Airport opened for business in 1987.

“So finding out about the past has never been a problem, as we have always had an internal history archive, who experienced it first hand and have some great stories to tell. Now some of those people are moving on and taking the Airport history with them. We feel it is important to ensure that the life of the Airport is recorded and not forgotten.”

Local communities have been involved for well over 20 years since the Airport was first proposed, we believe many of them have memories to share.

The Appeal is being managed as a project by Stuart Innes who as an officer of the former LDDC was involved in the earliest discussions about the Airport when it was first proposed in 1981. His Airport connections have continued until the present day, not least as Secretary of the Airport's Consultative Committee.

How you can help:

We are asking you to share with us your recollections of the Airport, if you have any stories to tell we would like to hear them. Plus, we are looking for any documentation connected to the Airport, you may have images of the Airport or you may still have one of the very first timetables or even an old news article.

Anything that relates to London City Airport that helps to capture the history and to tell the story of how it has grown to become one of Europe’s leading airports for business travel, we would like you to share it with us. All material will be returned.
