Dublin – the centre of all things Irish. Though settlements on the River Liffey (LIHF-ee) have existed at least 2 millennia, Dublin largely emerged in the 9th century and came under English rule in the middle ages. The city was the focal point for Ireland’s fight for independence in the early 20th century, developing a strong literary history along the way, with such figures as James Joyce capturing its unique atmosphere. Today the city welcomes visitors the world over to share in its dramatic past and uplifting future.
