London City Airport Supports the Docklands Equestrian Centre

London City Airport recently helped the Docklands Equestrian Centre in Beckton to remodel its horse trailer. The reconditioning of the vehicle gives budding horse and pony riders from Newham the opportunity to showcase their talent by visiting riding competitions across the country.

Docklands Equestrian Centre offers riding lessons for beginners to advanced riders and has an extensive riding programme for the disabled. The airport, which has previously provided a horse to the centre, recently gave a donation of £3,500 that was welcomed by centre manager, Maggie Cox.
 
The airport was first introduced to the Docklands Equestrian Centre in the 1980s by one of its neighbours, Silvertown resident Bill Dunlop, who is the deputy chairman of the London City Airport Consultative Committee and is a highly active member of the Royal Docks community. Bill has been involved with the activities of the Docklands Equestrian Centre for many years and even used to ride there himself.
 
This support is just one of the airport’s Community Health & Fitness programmes, encouraging Newham residents to participate in a range of sports and activities.  “London City Airport strongly believes that a healthy body leads to a healthy mind and we also support local projects that offer rugby, football, tennis and cheerleading,” said Elizabeth Hegarty, Community Relations Manager.
