London City Airport Accepting Entries for its University Prize Scheme
London City Airport is inviting applications from students entering university in September for its second annual University Prize Scheme. The airport awards successful applicants a sum of £2,000 for each year of their university degree, two weeks paid work experience each summer, an airport management mentor and an opportunity to participate in the airport’s in-house training courses.
Originally launched in 2007, the University Prize Scheme is open to all students who have lived in Newham for at least three years and have applied to study in the fields of transport, business, geography or foreign languages at university.
Last year's successful student applicants now receiving benefits from the scheme are Dwayne Black and Zohaib Bhutta, both from St Angela’s and St Bonaventure’s Sixth Form.
Richard Gooding OBE, Chief Executive of London City Airport, comments: "The airport has long been committed to supporting the development of the residents of Newham, our closest neighbours. This scheme offers two successful applicants the opportunity to excel in their chosen fields and continue in their career progression. The University Prize Scheme is just one of a host of programmes undertaken by the airport to support its local community."
The deadline for applications is Friday 27 June 2008.
Students wanting more information on the programme, should speak to their college or sixth form tutor or contact Rohima Begum at Rohima.Begum@londoncityairport.com.
