Celebrity Shane Richie to Officially Open the London City Airport Fun Day
Taking place on Saturday 5 July, the London City Airport Fun Day is definitely not to be missed. Shane Richie, comedian, singer and television presenter is probably best known for playing Alfie Moon in the BBC1 soap opera Eastenders. Shane will be dropping by to officially open this year’s Fun Day and to say hello to his real East End fans!
This year’s Fun Day promises to be bigger and better than ever before. The fun begins when the doors open at 2.30pm and the afternoon will be jam-packed with activities for the entire family to see, do and experience until 7.30pm. The Fun Day, supported by the Evening Standard newspaper, is in aid of Richard House Children’s Hospice which provides care and support for life-limited children and their families. Entry to the Fun Day is free and the majority of attractions are also free or just £1.
This year’s exciting entertainment includes London’s only air show. The spectacular display will include the Air Atlantique DC-6, Dukes of Cassutt – Cassutts Racers and Yak 3. This year also sees the return of the Pitts Special, Grace Spitfire, Cap 232 and a Swift glider display. Aviation enthusiasts will also be excited to know that the Air Atlantique DC-6 will be flying in especially for the Fun Day!
The major sponsor of this year’s Fun Day, British Airways, has an entire area full to the brim with an assortment of activities. Children have the opportunity to dress up in BA uniforms and have their photo taken with pilots and cabin crew in front of an aircraft. There will also be guided tours of the aircraft including the rare opportunity to see inside the cockpit.
At the Festival Stage you can sit back, relax and watch a selection of some amazing local talent. Iroko Theatre African Drummers, Turley Academy School of Irish Dance and the Ascension Eagles to name but a few will entertain everyone throughout the afternoon.
With the recent completion of new aircraft parking stands this year’s Fun Day will be much bigger than ever before. A Docklands Light Railway land train will be running from one end of the arena to the other, enabling you to capture all of the excitement the day has to offer.
Come and enjoy all of the fun of the circus for just £1 at the Fun Day. The Festival Circus is fun entertainment for the whole family - the team will amaze you with their fantastic performance and have you laughing until it hurts with their clowning around.
For only £5 per person you can reach for the skies in a tethered hot air balloon ride. As well as getting a great view of the Fun Day you will also get a spectacular view across Newham with this incredible experience.
Gala Bingo will be making a house call at the Fun Day and will be running free prize bingo sessions throughout the afternoon. Come along and try your luck to see if you could win one of many great prizes.
