At 1740 on Monday 28 December 2009 a Police helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing at London City Airport.
The pilot of the helicopter declared a fuel emergency and requested a priority landing at London City Airport. The helicopter was intended to land at its base in Lippitts Hill, however due to zero visibility caused by fog, the helicopter would not have safely reached its intended destination with limited fuel. Permission was therefore granted for the helicopter to land at London City
Airport. The helicopter departed the airport at 0948 on 29 December.
As part of the airport’s planning conditions, helicopters are not permitted to land other than in a genuine emergency. This helicopter was permitted to land under emergency conditions at London City Airport to ensure the safety of the pilot and the local community.
