British Airways is helping with the repatriation of 1,000 passengers stranded due to the volcanic ash disruption by sending out extra aircraft from London City Airport.
It is part of the emergency response to help people stranded since April 15th.
The airline’s wholly owned subsidiary BA CityFlyer will be operating a total of five
additional services from London City to Madrid and Barcelona from today until Sunday.
Most of the flights will be using the new 98-seat Embraer 190 aircraft meaning almost 1,000 extra passengers will be able to get back home by the end of the weekend.
Peter Simpson, managing director BA CityFlyer, said: “Fortunately we had some spare aircraft availability this week so we took the decision to run extra daily flights to assist as many people as possible in getting home.”
Passengers who were booked to travel on cancelled British Airways flights to and from Europe will be able to re-book on these new flights free of charge.
