London City Airport Puts Best Foot Forward for Local Dance School

London City Airport recently teamed up with Thamesmead School of Dance to sponsor an award for the ‘Hardest Working’ student. Teachers from the dance school, based in Byron Close, Thamesmead, selected the winning young dancer who had shown the most dedication and progress in the previous six months.

Kellie Heath from the London City Airport Community Team presented the award at the Dance School to Claudine Alberts, aged 10, who is the first student to claim the title.

In addition to the award, the airport sponsored new hooded uniform tops for young people at the dance school. The airport also judged a talent contest, with the two lucky winning dancers awarded tickets to see ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ from a suite at the O2 Arena.

Corinna Clements, Principal of Thamesmead School of Dance said ‘It is great to have a partnership with London City Airport.  This has enabled the dance school to come together; usually ballet and tap are kept quite separate from the street and cheerdance classes but with the open talent contest all members were invited so all the children got to meet each other’.

London City Airport’s partnership with the Thamesmead School of Dance forms part of the airport’s health and wellbeing for work programme, which engages young people in sports and activities to encourage them to get active, aim high and achieve their goals for a positive future.
