London City Airport Staff Go Back to School…Literally.

Ex-pupils of Caterham High School now working at London City Airport will have the opportunity to literally go back to school through the airport’s new education partnership with this secondary school in Clayhall, Redbridge.

Through former pupils including the airport’s Ramp Services Manager and Community Relations Manager, London City Airport recently committed to support Caterham High School in Redbridge by offering the airport’s education excellence programme.

To get the partnership off to a great start London City Airport delivered a literacy based competition for students in Year 10, who produced newspaper pages featuring three short stories based on careers at the airport and employer expectations.  The best three lucky students were awarded tickets to see Rihanna live in concert at the 02 Arena.

The airport managers took up the opportunity to attend the school to participate in Transition Day and were more than excited to be back at school!  Aimed at Year 9 pupils Transition Day provided the opportunity to experience and participate in activities based on leadership, communication and team work to equip and benefit them when making decisions on further education and employment.

Ms Heather Sheridan, Deputy Head, commented "We were really pleased to be able to work with London City Airport in this way. Our young people really benefit from contact with local employers,  working on skills such as team work and initiative”.
