Alitalia debuts their new Embraer E-190 aircraft

26/03/2012

London, 26 March 2012 – Today, the first Alitalia flight took off from London City Airport situated in the heart of London’s financial district.

The flight marks Alitalia’s debut from City Airport where it now operates directly thanks to the Embraer E-190, one of the few aircraft able to land at City Airport.

Alitalia offers two daily flights between London City and Milan Linate airports from Monday to Friday. There is one daily flight on Sunday.

Alitalia’s new Embraer E-190 aircraft offer 100 seats with a 2 by 2 configuration. The absence of a middle seat and the ‘slim-line’ leather seats guarantee maximum comfort for all passengers. Two classes are available: Ottima (the business class on Alitalia’s international routes) and Classica (Economy Class).

In 2012, Alitalia will carry about 50,000 passengers on the Milan Linate - London City route and is already aiming at increasing the service to three flights daily.

London City Airport boasts the fastest check-in procedures, boarding and disembarkation of passengers of all the London airports. London City Airport offers complimentary Wi-Fi internet access and numerous workstations to all passengers throughout the airport.

The first flight in the morning from London City to Milan Linate is scheduled to depart at 09.25 am and arrive at 12.20 pm local time. The second flight is scheduled to depart at 5.40 pm arriving at 8.40 pm local time. The return flights from Milan Linate are scheduled to depart at 07.45 am arriving at London City at 08.55 am. The second flight from Milan Linate is scheduled to depart at 3.55 pm arriving at 5.05 pm local time.

Return fares start from GBP152.00 (including taxes), terms and conditions apply.

Alitalia offers also 33 weekly frequencies from London Heathrow to Milan Linate.

The link London City – Milan was previously operated by Alitalia with City Jet aircraft in wet lease.

Editors note

London City Airport (LCY) is the only airport situated in London itself, just two miles from the site of the 2012 Olympic Games, three miles from Canary Wharf, seven miles from the City and 10 miles from London’s West End – linked to all via the LCY Docklands Light Railway station. Welcoming over 3 million passengers in 2011, LCY is not only uniquely convenient, but offers a uniquely rapid transit, through check-in and security to the departure lounge and gate, of around 20 minutes. 12 airlines fly out of LCY, serving over 40 destinations including Dublin, Madrid and Geneva – the latest additions for 2012 are Aberdeen, Venice, Basel, Mahon, Angers and Quimper. LCY is on Twitter (@londoncityairport) and further information about flights, destinations and airport services can be found at www.londoncityairport.com.
