A Lot of Bottle This Christmas at London City Airport
If you find a gift under the tree from a loved one who has taken a flight from London recently, there’s a good chance it will come in a bottle.
London City Airport [LCY] has reported record sales of perfume and alcohol in December, with around £7,000 worth of champagne being sold per week in the run up to Christmas.
Sales of perfume and cosmetics at Aelia Duty Free in the departure lounge at LCY are up by 47 per cent since the end of November, while sales of alcohol are up 27 per cent. Spirits in particular are selling well, with an increase of 41 per cent.
With a collect on return service and free home delivery to anywhere in the UK for orders of 12 bottles of champagne, travellers flying out of LCY and returning at a later date don’t have to take their items on the trip with them.
Neil McLeod, Director of Non-Aviation Sales at London City Airport said: “Many of those flying through LCY are business people and are time poor. The numbers show that people are picking up gifts on their way through the airport and killing two birds with one stone.
“It’s certainly not the equivalent of buying flowers from the petrol station on the way home; perfume, spirits and champagne are indulgent items that all of us look forward to unwrapping on Christmas Day. Aelia also offers a collect on return service so people flying out of LCY are able to order items to pick up when they get back. And for those looking to give someone an extra special gift this Christmas they could perhaps go for a Jeroboam of Cristal champagne at £1,950, a bottle of Le Voyage Delamain cognac at £7,500 or, for the ultimate Christmas Day drink, a bottle of Dalmore 1966 whisky at £17,500.”
London City Airport (LCY) is the only London airport situated in London itself, just three miles from Canary Wharf, seven miles from the City and 10 miles from London’s West End and linked to all via the Docklands Light Railway.
