Rare Cask on Sale Exclusively At London City Airport

27/08/2013
The first decanter of the Rémy Martin Louis XIII Rare Cask 42,6 to retail in UK Duty Free will go on sale in the Aelia Duty Free shop at London City Airport on 1st September.

The airport – first choice of the business traveller and the only airport actually in London – will be the first to stock the much anticipated cognac in UK Duty Free, while enthusiasts will also be able to purchase by the glass at two of London’s top hotels.

Just 738 bottles of Rare Cask 42,6 are in existence and are the product of one single, extremely rare tierçon found amongst the hundreds occupying the Rémy Martin cellars.  Its uniqueness is signalled by a 42.6 per cent alcohol content, two degrees higher than the expected 40 per cent ABV.  However, its real individuality is determined by its astonishing richness and the intensity of its flavours – reflecting those for which Louis XIII is renowned but also with distinctive flavours of its own.

Neil McLeod, Non-Aviation Sales Director at London City Airport said:  “It is extremely exciting for us to be able to offer such a wonderfully rare item for sale in conjunction with our retail partner Aelia Duty Free.  The majority of passengers travelling through London City Airport are business people and VIPs and so we carefully select the retail mix to suit their tastes and requirements.  We currently have an exhibition of work by Italian artist Carlo Gavazzeni on display in the departure lounge and this exclusive Rémy Martin Rare Cask is certain to capture the imagination.”

Phil Manning, Operations Director for Aelia Duty Free commented:  “We are thrilled to be able to introduce such a rare and exclusive product to London City Airport, which has a very discerning customer who is looking for something unique. We are the first retailer in UK Duty Free to stock the Rémy Martin Louis XIII Rare Cask 42,6 which is quite a coup for us and the airport to be granted such exclusivity.  Only a handful of retailers in the world have been selected to sell this bottle.”

The discovery, just the second edition following the launch of Rare Cask 43,8 in 2009, was made by Rémy Martin Cellar Master, Pierette Trichet.
Rare Cask 42,6 is encased in a precious black crystal decanter with a 22 carat rose gold enveloped ring around the neck.  The decanter is presented in a detailed forged-metal ‘strongbox’, sealed by a rose gold plaque, with the interior illuminated and mirrors enhancing the details of the crystal.

Rare Cask 42,6 will be on sale in the Aelia store in the departure lounge at London City Airport from 1 September.  It is priced at £16,000.

Editors note

London City Airport (LCY) is the only London airport situated in London itself, just three miles from Canary Wharf, seven miles from the City and 10 miles from London’s West End and linked to all via the Docklands Light Railway. Catering for over 3 million passengers and 70,000 movements annually, in 2012 LCY celebrated its millionth flight, 36 millionth passenger and 25 years of operation.  LCY offers a unique rapid transit proposition – a short check in, door to lounge, and a shorter arrival, tarmac to train.  11 airlines fly out of LCY, serving 48 destinations, eight of which were new for 2012, with six further announced in 2013.  The airport has permission to increase its operation to 120,000 movements per annum, which it intends to do by 2023. Further information about the airport and its services can be obtained by browsing our website.
