Following a tender process, London City Airport has selected a new branded concession to join its retail operation. Caffé Nero, the Italian coffee bar specialists, will locate at a site in the departure lounge at the airport. A soft-launch will take place in September 2007, with a full opening scheduled for October.
Caffe Nero was selected due to the consistent quality and consumer appeal of their products. “We are delighted to welcome this new brand to London City Airport. Caffé Nero perfectly complements the profile of passengers travelling through the airport,” said Richard Gooding, Chief Executive of London City Airport.
“Caffé Nero is particularly pleased to be opening in this prestigious location as we know that many of our existing customers are frequent users of London City Airport and they will be very pleased to find us in the departure lounge,” commented Paul Ettinger, Commercial Director of Caffe Nero.
Caffé Nero joins the airport’s current retail catering offerings, including Meridian Line Restaurant, Marche Frais Cart, Coffee Corner and Trattoria which are operated by Restair for HMS Host Europe. The catering options complement London City Airport’s retail proposition that includes an extensive tax and duty free centre operated by Nuance.
The appointment of Caffé Nero at London City Airport signals the next steps in growth for the airport. Earlier this month London City Airport submitted its interim planning application, requesting permission to increase its annual movements from 80,000 to 120,000, with projected passengers to reach 3.9 million by 2010.
