London City Airport helps boost brain power of local school children

28/07/2008

Strengthening the message that learning can be fun, London City Airport has donated six Nintendo DS Lites to Old Palace Primary School. Pupils aged from eight will use the hand held games consoles to play mentally challenging games such as Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training to improve their mental arithmetic skills.

Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training features a variety of puzzles, including mathematical questions and Sudoku puzzles, all designed to help keep certain parts of the brain active.

Elizabeth Hegarty, Community Relations Manager said “we are really pleased to be able to support such a unique method of learning. The airport education excellence programme focuses on learning the key basics of numeracy and literacy and we hope this project will engage young people to improve their confidence and skill when working with numbers”.

Garry Morland, acting Deputy Head Teacher for Old Palace Primary School said “we are always looking for new and exciting ways to encourage the pupils to learn. The six Nintendo DS Lites are a great addition to our teaching tools which I’m sure will prove to be very popular”.

Old Palace Primary School for girls and boys aged from 4 to 11 is in the Bromley ward of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
