London is a cultural and historic city, highly recognised for its West End theatre entertainment, shopping and historic attractions. London is home to notable cultural attractions such as the British Museum, the Tate Galleries, the National Gallery, the Notting Hill Carnival and The O2 entertainment arena. It's also packed with history: the Tower of London, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar Square, to name a few.

The city of London is home to more than 300 nationalities which has a major effect on the diverse culture that is London today.  

Education

London has one of the highest concentrations of universities and higher education institutions in the world, with 40 higher education institutions and a student population of more than 400,000. London is home to some of the world’s most recognised and popular institutions such as, Imperial College, City University, Kings College, Queen Marys and University of Westminster. Additionally, over 45,000 students in over 180 countries follow the University of London External System. London City Airport is located just minutes away from the University of East London.

Economy

London is a major financial hub and one of three major "command centres" for the global economy along with New York City and Tokyo. The City of London has the fifth largest city economy in the world with a GDP of $565 billion in 2008.

London City Airport contributes £½ billion to the UK economy every year.

In February 2011, London City Airport published ‘Integral to Growth’ a report summarising the recent economic impact. The study, carried out by York Aviation, highlights how London City Airport directly contributes £½ billion to the UK economy every year.

The report details how, over the past 23 years, the Airport has played a major part in the economic success of Canary Wharf, the City of London and enterprises like ExCel. It also shows how the Airport is key to business productivity in the capital with the revenue generated by our passengers who make use of the convenient access to Docklands and the City.

Companies

More than half of the UK's top 100 listed companies (the FTSE 100) and over 100 of Europe's 500 largest companies are headquartered in central London. Over 70% of the FTSE 100 are located within London's metropolitan area and 75% of Fortune 500 companies are predominately based in London. London is also the headquarters for four of the world's six largest law firms.

Employment

Currently, over 85% (3.2 million) of the employed population of greater London work in service industries. Another half a million employees work in manufacturing and construction, almost equally divided between both.

Tourism

Tourism is one of London's main industries. The city is one of the most visited in the world with 15.6 million international visitors in 2006. In second place is Bangkok (10.4 million international visitors) with Paris in third (9.7 million). Tourism employed the equivalent of 350,000 full-time workers in London in 2003, whilst annual expenditure by tourists is around £15bn.
