You might know it best as the sun-soaked gateway to the Costa del Sol, but Malaga is more than just a collection of stellar sandy beaches. At its core is the history-rich Old Town, presided over by an 11th-century castle and a sumptuous Gothic cathedral, and lined with countless umber-hued, balconied townhouses. Tapas bars pack the pedestrianised streets, while a recent redevelopment drive has spurred the opening of several new museums as well as a glitzy fashion-focused port development. All that, and the glorious beaches of Torremolinos and Fuengirola just a hop and a skip away.
