24 hours in...

Welcome to Dundee, one of Scotland’s largest cities. The city benefits from a central geographic location and with direct flights from London City Airport to its own Airport, come and enjoy a guaranteed warm Scottish welcome. Here is a selection of some great ideas compiled for a 24 hours to remember....
0900-1000. You can’t visit Dundee without sampling a Scottish Breakfast and some traditional Scottish fayre. Sample some delicious locally made jams and marmalades with your tea and toast.
1000-1130. RRS Discovery and Discovery Point is a five star visitor attraction and is the focal point of the city’s visitor scene, sitting at the heart of the waterfront and housing the restored RRS Discovery. Climb aboard and discover how the officers and crew survived for two winters trapped in the Antarctic ice. Enjoy the hands-on interactive exhibitions, see the voyages come to life through films and artefacts inside the Point, and of course, visit the gift shop or have some refreshments at café. 
11.30-1230. Stroll around The McManus: Dundee’s Art Gallery and Museum which is home to one of Scotland’s most impressive collections of fine and decorative art. This historic building oozes with Victorian splendour creating a museum for the 21st Century.  Entry is free. 
1230-1400 Dundee has an eclectic selection of eateries offering an excellent variety of cuisine. You will find a wide variety of restaurants. Close by are the Metro Brasserie at the Apex Hotel, Bon Appetit (French) Restaurant, Rama (Thai) Restaurant, Marco Polo (Mediterranean) Restaurant, The Blue Marlin (Seafood) Restaurant, are to name but a few. 
1400-1530. Visit Dundee Science Centre - Sensation and you are promised a wonderful experience with interactive exhibitions and displays for all ages. You can immerse yourself in the curiosities and wonders of science.  Be enthralled by the exploration of the universe in our planetarium... enjoy dramatic science  demonstrations at our daily science shows... see yourself in infrared..morph yourself into an ape... investigate a crime... test your skills at keyhole surgery... and introduce yourself to our robots. This tourist attraction offers an exciting and entertaining experience for everyone - with a full calendar of exhibitions, events and workshops throughout the year. 
1400-1530. A short taxi ride takes you to Camperdown Wildlife Centre located in the beautiful Camperdown Country Park.  The centre is open all year and boasts species including lemurs, wallaby, Indian peafowl and Brown Bear. 
1530-1700. Head towards the Cultural Quarter - Visit Perth Road to find a selection of the best boutiques, jewellers, galleries, antique dealers and specialist gift shops.
You will also discover some of the best cafes and cocktail bars in the cultural quarter. Everything you could want for an enjoyable afternoon.  Also sitting in the heart of Dundee’s cultural quarter is DCA, an internationally renowned centre for contemporary culture. It boasts galleries attracting a succession of exhibitions, two cinemas as well as a superior craft and design shop. The Jute Café Bar is vibrant and a popular social hub and meeting place. DCA has trail blazed its way to becoming one of the UK’s leading artistic centres. 
1700-1800. (summer hours) Scotland’s Jute Museum @ Verdant Works is a tale of two cities - both of them Dundee. Experience what thousands of people who worked in the Jute Mills during the 19th Century Dundee endured. For the privileged few - the Jute Barons, it was a city of opportunity and wealth. At Verdant Works the rattle and roar of the original restored machinery will transport you back over 100 years to an era when jute was king and Dundee was its realm. 
1800-1900. There are several delightful eateries in and around the Cultural Quarter to tempt you to a pre-theatre dinner. The Playwright, The Parlour, Nosey Parkers in the Queens Hotel and the Jute Cafe bar at DCA are all just a few minutes walk from the Rep Theatre. If you’d prefer to dine at the theatre, The Encore bar and brasserie is also the ideal place for pre-theatre meals with the emphasis on a delicious stylish blend of classic and modern dishes cooked to order. The menu is designed by first rate chefs to suit a broad range of palates. 
1900-2200. Dundee Rep Theatre is a unique venue boasting the best in the performing arts from Scotland’s award winning acting ensemble to stunning dance by Scottish Dance Theatre.  It is firmly established as one of the leading theatres in the country, producing an eclectic programme of high quality drama, comedy, music and dance. After 2200. After Dark and the night is young. Dundee’s music credentials are something to be proud of. Check out our thriving music scene, dance the night away at a club or to round off a great night out in a relaxed atmosphere visit one of Dundee’s casinos.
