London City Airport works closely with local charities, sharing time and experience, and raising funds and awareness.
Richard House is a children’s hospice, located in Newham, that provides care and support to children and young people who are at risk of death because of a life-limiting or life-threatening health condition.
Each year staff from across the business take part in fundraising activities in support of the hospice, which include cycle challenges to Amsterdam, the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge and 5 a-side football tournaments.
London City Airport has a longstanding commitment to Richard house which spans over 20 years, raising over £800,000 during that time.
London City Airport is main sponsor of the Stephen Timms Summer School which gives local Newham students an opportunity to broaden their knowledge of national, local and national politics.
Through taking part in the programme, 16-18 year olds get the opportunity to work with Councillor Timms office in Westminster and experience civic life at the Council and in Newham. During their times on the course, students enjoy access to a number of experienced professionals from the political world and will receive introductory training in public speaking, advocacy and campaigning. .
London City Airport and its staff are passionate about their local communities and give up their own time to volunteer towards a mixture of skills sharing and physical projects over the course of the year.

Each year in June, the airport also runs a volunteering fortnight which is in line with National Volunteering Week where onsite staff are tasked with taking part in and completing several local volunteering projects within two weeks.
We are more than happy to hear from local community centers and charities that would like to be part of our volunteering programme and you can do so by emailing Anthony Angol here.
Located in Beckton, Newham Foodbank is a community based project which helps individuals and families in crisis by providing emergency food. They rely heavily on donations from schools, churches, businesses, individuals and supermarket collections.
We have been a regular supporter of this much needed local project and over the last 6 years have donated over £10,000’s worth of food to this cause.
