Following the airport’s Industry Day in March, 14 enthusiastic students from Buxton School in Waltham Forest were treated to a Dream Job prize day hosted by the airport and BA CityFlyer.
With a focus on demystifying careers in aviation, the day kicked off with students networking with a range of staff from both businesses, including BA CityFlyer’s trainee cabin crew and the airport’s Capacity Planning team. The group was then taken behind the scenes and onto a BA plane, where they received tutorials on cockpit controls from a BA pilot and practiced giving safety demos with the cabin crew.
Following this the group took to the ramp on a bus tour, led by the airport’s Airfield Operations Team. Students learnt about their role in keeping the airfield a safe environment, and the tour ended with an exhilarating trip down the airport’s runway. Just when they thought the day couldn’t get any better, they were ushered into the airport’s Fire Station, where they had a go on a fire extinguisher simulation and explored the Fire Engines.
Rabia Qayyum, Learning Manager at Buxton School, commented:
“This truly was an incredible experience. The pupils were amazed at the job prospects and the day was really informative. The pupils loved the enthusiasm and positivity from the members of staff, and the trip was organised really well - brilliantly planned.”
