London City Airport has launched a new programme for local primary schools entitled ‘Your Royals Docks’.
The airport has worked with the Museum of London Docklands to develop a teaching resource which takes KS2 students on a journey through the rich history of the Royal Docks, the largest enclosed docks in the world, and gets them thinking about change going on now and planned for the future.
Topics covered in the pack include the crucial role the Royal Docks played in connecting London to the world in the 19th & early 20th Centuries, life and work in the Victorian Royal Docks and during WW2, the people of the Royal Docks and future regeneration plans. Alongside detailed thematic content, each chapter contains learning outcomes and activity suggestions, and the pack culminates in a suggested field trip with accompanying activity sheets.
So far, 17 schools across Newham and Tower Hamlets plan to use the resource in the 2014/2015 academic year. The resource is free and available to download. Click here for details.
