Throughout the year
Every year starts off with a bang at one of the biggest New Year’s Eve celebrations – and the party doesn’t stop from there. Like classical music? Head to the Proms, a series of concerts hosted in the stunning Royal Albert Hall. More of a sports fan? Then don’t miss Wimbledon, the biggest lawn tennis event in the year.
In May you can see the world's best gardening creations at the Chelsea Flower Show, while in October you can attend glitzy premieres during the London Film Festival. London Fashion Week, which takes place in September, is one of the biggest events in the business.
The Trooping of the Colour
For a taste of royalty, visit London in June to see the Trooping of the Colour. Britain wears its traditions proudly on its sleeve at an event celebrating the Queen’s Official Birthday. Situated at one of the great landmarks of London, an elegant formal parade takes place on the Mall and the crowds come out to wave at Her Majesty.
The capital’s financial importance means that it also regularly hosts business events and conferences, such as the British Chambers of Commerce Annual Conference, which takes place every March. There's also the Great British Business Show, a May event that sees internationally significant business leaders fly to London as keynote speakers.
London Fashion Week
Cutting-edge trends from the world’s finest designers take the spotlight at this twice-yearly event. Catwalk shows teem with the who’s who of fashion and celebrity, while exclusive after-show parties keep cool crowds entertained until the small hours.
Chelsea Flower Show
England’s premier horticultural celebration is always awash with innovative designs, prize blooms and new plant unveilings. Out of all of the sights in London, this quintessentially British event is one not to be missed by gardening enthusiasts, or those who want a peak into the world of stunning landscape design.
Tennis greats battle it out at Wimbledon’s All England Club during the world’s oldest tennis tournament. Spectators cheer on the likes of Murray and Djokovic while tucking into Wimbledon’s famous strawberries and cream. Whether you're sitting courtside or watching on one of the screens outside, the atmosphere alone makes this one of the most exciting places to visit in London over the summer.
Notting Hill Carnival
Notting Hill in West London is taken over by a huge and flamboyant street party that dominates pavements, pubs and parks. A colourful procession leads through the streets, complemented by a rainbow collage of Caribbean food stalls, calypso and samba bands, DJ sets for one of the best parties London has to offer.
The BFI London Film Festival
Showcasing the cream of British and international film, the BFI Film Festival is London’s most extensive celebration of the big screen. Cinemas across the city put on a rich selection of documentaries, feature films and shorts.
