Waste and Recycling
London City Airport strives to achieve a sustainable approach to waste management across the site. All waste is diverted from landfill, and we reduce, reuse and recycle wherever possible. We work hard with all business partners at the airport to segregate waste and send it for beneficial reuse. For example coffee beans used at our cafes and restaurants are made into a biofuel. Currently around 60% of waste is recycled, and we aim to be a zero waste airport by 2030, ensuring all materials are reused and recycled.
In 2021 we were the first UK airport to ban plastic straws, and we also trialled the use of compostable security bags. We aim to eliminate all single-use plastics from our airport by 2025.
