Located at the gates to the Mediterranean, Gibraltar fuses local culture with international influences throughout its architecture, cuisine, and traditions. With Upper Rock Nature Reserve as it’s most well known and distinctive tourist attraction, there is no end of outdoor adventures to be had on this bustling peninsula.

Getting active

Being a country whose main attraction is a beautiful nature reserve, there are plenty of ways to keep active in Gibraltar. One of the most popular and accessible activities is walking throughout the reserve, where there are a variety of different nature trails on offer. Each trail guides you to different attractions around the reserve and varies in difficulty, so whether you’re an avid hiker or an easy-going wanderer, you’ll be able to find a walk that suits you. To access the reserve, you will need to purchase a Gibraltar Nature Reserve and attractions ticket, which will give you access to many attractions within the area.

If you’re looking to cover more ground and pick up the pace, you can take part in a guided cycling tour with EBike. Whether you partake in a group or private tour, these friendly, knowledgeable guides will show you the best of Gibraltar, taking you to all of the stunning sites and attractions. If you’re more inclined to explore off route, but would still like to give it a go, you can hire a bike out for half a day for £35, or £49 for a full day.

As well as the heady heights of the nature reserve, Gibraltar has many stunning, sandy beaches with a wide variety of different water-based activities to get involved with, one of the most popular of which is diving. Due to its location by the Gateway to the Mediterranean, Gibraltar has a spectacular marine biodiversity and coral reefs for divers to explore, as well as over 35 wrecks to discover. Dive Charters Gibraltar offer a wide range of diving courses, starting at £55pp for a beginners session. If you want to discover a different side of Gibraltar, it’s time to dive in!

Paddle boarding

Another popular water sport around the peninsula is paddle boarding. If you want to explore Gibraltar from all angles, paddling boarding is the way to go as you see the sights of Upper Rock from a whole new view. This is a perfect family activity as you work your way around the coastline at a leisurely pace, guided by experienced trainers. You might even see some dolphins along the way! Check out In2adventures for more information about paddling boarding and many of the other adventure activities they have on offer.
