The Dundee Mountain Film Festival
If you love films and adventure sports, then Dundee has just the event for you! Even if you don’t have such a niche set of interests, then The Dundee Mountain Film Festival (DMFF) is an annual event that takes place during the last weekend of November. Presenting the best films of the year in mountaineering, mountain culture, and adventure sports, this festival gives you an insight into some of the indie production companies creating things to see that you may not be able to see in popular cinema. If catching a film is a bit too much for you, then they have an art and trade exhibition as well which is well worth a wander around.
Goggles on for the Dundee Science Festival
With live shows, creative workshops, family drop-in events and more, the Dundee Science Festival is always alive with creativity! With the aim of bringing people together to enjoy science, this festival is a perfect one for families as it not only focuses on science, but how science interacts with other topics such as history and geography. The festival is held at the beginning of October, but if you’re not around Dundee at that time, don’t worry, they work in association with Dundee Science Centre that’s open all year round.
Dundee Flower and Food Festival
Set in the grounds of Camperdown Park, this three day festival is an impressive event whether your interests lie in horticulture and food or not! Held at the beginning of September, the Dundee Flower and Food Festival is as interactive as it is visually stunning. With floral art demonstrations, craft fair, children’s themed activity marquee, live bands and entertainers, you can see why it’s a three day event that that has so many things to see and do that it attractions around 18,000 people each year. If you’re in the mood to compete, there are over 700 competitive classes in which to display your talents. If you’re lucky, you might even see the likes of Mary Berry and Gino D’Acampo pursuing the event as well!
Dundee Jazz Festival
If you’re looking for a music festival, then Dundee has an annual Jazz Festival. Spanning the end of October and beginning of November, you can experience the best in jazz performances, from classic to contemporary styles, band to solo performers, in a multitude of venues, there really is something for every Jazz lover. If you’re not totally convinced by Jazz, then keep an eye out for some of the fusion bands that play at the end - you never know, maybe you’ll find your new favourite genre!
