Nightlife

Florence offers something for all tastes when it comes to nightlife, from sleek cocktail bars and buzzing clubs to traditional trattorias for quieter evenings. One thing that should be on every Florentine itinerary – although it needn’t be in the evening – is wine tasting. One of the finest places to do it is the aptly named Piazza del Vino, on Via della Torretta. Each tasting session sees you sampling four local wines, including a Chianti, accompanied by light Florentine snacks.

To experience a true stalwart of Florence’s nightlife, head to Harry’s Bar on the banks of the Arno. Welcoming guests since 1952, this is one of the best places in the city for a traditional cocktail, in keeping with its pedigree – founder Giuseppe Cipriani invented the Bellini at the original Harry’s Bar in Venice in the mid 20th century.

Florence has no shortage of live music options, but a particularly good place to head is the Santo Spirito area south of the Arno. Perennial local favourites here include NoF, an always-packed venue playing host to local bands, and La Cite, a fantastic multimedia space incorporating a library, jazz lounge and bar.
