Getting Around

You’ll be able to hire cars at Guernsey airport for the duration of your stay from two providers, Europcar and Value Car Hire. Driving around Guernsey’s countryside roads is a bit different from driving in the UK though - speeds across the island are capped at 35 miles per hour (56km/h) with lower speeds in certain areas. This is due to the fact that most Guernsey roads are very narrow and winding, so you’ll need to be a confident driver to navigate your way around the island. You can find out about other driving rules around Guernsey on the Government website.

All buses in Guernsey are run by on behalf of the States of Guernsey, with each daytime journey on A-B routes costing just £1, regardless of the distance. It’s definitely the cheapest way of travelling around the island by far! Night journeys are also available for £3. There is also a range of travel passes available, the most expensive of which is a £38 family pass (two adults and three children) for a 7 day period - very good value for money! If you are a regular traveller around the island, you can receive a discount through the puffinpass. You can find out more on the website. Interestingly, all of the buses have been made narrower than the standard UK bus to allow them to navigate through the narrow roads of the Guernsey countryside.

There are 7 taxi ranks across the island, including at the airport. Fares vary depending on where you are looking to travel to, but you can book in advance and check your fare. Accessible and private taxis are available for hire as well. You can find out more on the States of Guernsey website.
