Tell us about you

I am the PA to the Chief Commercial Officer for London City Airport (LCY) and an administrator to the Marketing Department.

I have worked for the airport for 13 years, joining when the business was a lot smaller, originally as a security officer and later moving on to be a receptionist. It sounds obvious but organisation and time management is very important as a PA, and I was able to draw on my experience working in the airport Business Centre’s reception when I moved into my present role.

What is it you enjoy the most in your role?

The best thing about the role is the people I work with and the many different things I do and get to see each day. I have a great boss which helps a great deal, I’ve been to a number of really interesting events, met some lovely people, but in general it’s simply a fantastic environment to work in and I have enjoyed every minute of it.

LCY is quite a small airport in comparison to Heathrow or Gatwick – we are the only airport actually in London, I’d like to add! – it’s like a little family. It’s such a great place to work as the management team encourage development and training, so you can move around departments and learn new skills.

It’s so good that my family also works here - I have two grown up children, my son is a duty officer for Ramp Services and my daughter used to work as cabin crew for BA. You could say we have the airport vibe in our blood!

What advice would you give to someone thinking of becoming a PA?

I would definitely recommend investing some time in getting to know the business and just what their boss’ workload is like. That kind of knowledge is a great help. It’s not easy managing your own time and someone else’s on top of it, but with the right understanding of the people and work involved it can definitely be done.
