At London City Airport, the only airport in London, we are making it easier than ever for visitors from all over Europe to get to England’s iconic capital city, and for Londoners to travel to Europe. Three new routes will launch to Germany alone this year, adding to seven new services to the Continent launched in 2012 and more in the pipeline.
LCY now offers flights to 44 destinations across Europe and New York. In 2012 the airport celebrated its 25th anniversary with a visit from The Queen. It also welcomed its millionth flight and 36 millionth passenger, as well as being the airport of choice for the Team GB swimming and track and field athletes arriving for the Olympics.
All of this success in 2012 will make it a difficult year to follow. We celebrated several significant milestones and hosted many exciting events as London took centre stage. However, there is already good news this year with CityJet having announced three new routes for the first half of 2013, and we are working towards an application for planning permission that will transform the airport. We are continuing to add new routes to and from LCY to cater for all types of traveller. We have added several important leisure routes in the last few months and we continue to be a first choice business airport.
London City Airport stands out from other airports as it caters for those who are time poor. A quick transit through check-in to the departure lounge, or through arrivals to continue your onward journey means you have to spend less time in the airport and so have more time to do other things. And with all that London has to offer right on our doorstep, you can get straight to your destination and be at the centre of the action.
The airport is popular with business and leisure travellers due to its convenient location and quick check-in and arrival times. The runway is built into the Royal Docks and the approach to landing has been voted one of the most impressive in the world.
In 2012 we launched routes to; Mahon, Menorca; Venice, Italy; Angers, France; Basel, Switzerland; Aberdeen, Scotland; Quimper, France; and Munster-Osnabruck, Germany.
We are all looking forward to an exciting 2013.
Happy New Year.
