All surplus food produce at EAT., a concession based at London City Airport, is now donated to two local homeless projects – Turnaround Renewal Programme in Forest Gate and St Fidelis Friary in Canning Town.
Both local organisations provide a safe environment, hot meal, shower facilities and support for homeless people. Every evening staff and volunteers from both shelters visit EAT. to collect any remaining produce which is still suitable for consumption. The food donated by EAT. is then distributed accordingly providing nutritious meals for people in need.
Turnaround Renewal Programme provides breakfast and dinner to local homeless people. With the donations from EAT., the programme is now able to provide packed lunches which are distributed during the day.
Rene Jackson, a volunteer for the St Fidelis Friary makes four weekly visits to the airport to collect the food from EAT. Irene said: “The team at EAT. have been brilliant, they are so generous with their daily donations and we thank them for making the time to accommodate our collections. The quality of the food is amazing and it is greatly appreciated.”
Jeremy Samuels, General Manager for EAT. at London City Airport said: “Our wholesome soups and sandwiches are made fresh everyday. We are pleased to be able to offer our excess food to such worthwhile local charities.”
