For the second year running London City Airport has been named a Business Superbrand, ranking amongst a list of the United Kingdom’s top 500 business brands including Google and Airbus. London City Airport has climbed high up the Superbrands list from 415th position in 2008 to 261st in 2009.
The prestigious annual Superbrands list is based upon an independent selection process carried out through a vote by more than 1,500 business professionals.
The Centre for Brand Analysis, managing the research for the Superbrands programme, defines a Business Superbrand as “having established the finest reputation in its field. It offers customers significant emotional and/or tangible advantages over its competitors, which customers want and recognise.”
Richard Gooding OBE, Chief Executive of London City Airport, welcomed the accolade: “London City Airport’s focus on serving the business community has allowed us to grow our business, brand and reputation to be the finest business airport in the United Kingdom. Our location on the doorstep of the City and Canary Wharf makes us an obvious choice for business travellers wanting to reach over 30 UK and European financial centres.”
2008 was a record year for London City Airport with 3.3 million travelling passengers. The airport also completed the largest ever capital expenditure programme, with the addition of four new aircraft parking stands and piers, a refurbishment of its departure lounge and an extension to its outbound baggage facility, at a cost of some £50 million.
Later this year, British Airways, a fellow Business Superbrand, will commence a twice-daily business class only service from London City Airport to New York using two Airbus A318 aircraft.
