London City Airport Maintains Position as Most Punctual Commercial Airport in the UK

London City Airport (LCY) had the most flights on time of all the UK’s airports during the last quarter of 2013 – the seventh consecutive period that the only airport actually in London has held the top spot.

Data published by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) shows that 87 per cent of all flights at LCY were on time, and the airport also recorded the shortest average delay of any airport at just 8 minutes – a record it has held since the beginning of 2012.

From October to December 2013, overall 80 per cent of flights at the ten UK airports monitored were on time and the average delay was 12 minutes.

Darren Grover, Chief Operating Officer at London City Airport said: “The hard work of everyone on the ground at LCY continues to set us above all the other UK airports and provide our passengers with the most punctual service in the country bar none. We have run the most flights on time in the country for nearly two years straight – and against a backdrop of the busiest year ever at LCY with 3.4 million passengers travelling through. It’s a fantastic achievement and we will work hard to maintain our number 1 position.”

A total of 3,380,000 passengers travelled through London City Airport in 2013.

London City Airport (LCY) is the only airport actually in London, just three miles from Canary Wharf, seven miles from the City and 10 miles from London’s West End and linked to all via the Docklands Light Railway. Catering for around 3.4 million passengers (63% travelling on business) and 70,000 movements annually, in 2014 LCY will celebrate 27 years of operation. LCY offers a unique rapid transit proposition – a short check in (door to lounge) of around 20 minutes, and a shorter arrival (tarmac to train) of around 15 minutes. Ten airlines fly out of LCY, serving 41 mainly European destinations. The airport has permission to increase its operation to 120,000 movements per annum – carrying 6 million passengers - which it intends to do by 2023.
