ITA Airways has reaffirmed its commitment to the UK with a three daily service to Milan Linate Airport (LIN) from London City Airport (LCY) in response to significant demand for the route from business and leisure travellers.
The Italian flag carrier will also introduce an additional daily service in January 2024, bringing the total number of weekly rotations to Milan to 24. Passengers will benefit from the unrivalled proximity of both airports by flying to-and-from London’s and Milan’s most centrally located airports.
Milan, also known as the Fashion Capital of Italy, is a popular destination for leisure passengers with cultural and historical attractions including the Duomo di Milano, some of Italy’s finest cuisine and the San Siro football stadium. In addition, holidaymakers will have increased access to Italy’s Lake District, like Lake Como and ski resorts in the Italian Alps like Courmayeur and Cervinia, which can be reached in around two hours from the airport.
The route also links two of Europe’s key financial hubs and is used by many business travellers and large corporations including JP Morgan, Barclays and Credit Suisse.
Andrew Hodges, Chief Commercial Officer, London City Airport, said: “Milan was previously one of our top five performing routes and we have recently seen huge pent-up demand from our passengers to travel to-and-from, so we’re delighted to be offering greater access to the city.”
Emiliana Limosani, Chief Commercial Officer ITA Airways and CEO Volare, said: “We are pleased to be operating at London City, a favourite destination for business customers working in the British capital.
“We are also particularly proud to accompany our passengers with our brand new Airbus, which has just joined the fleet. The UK is a strategic market for ITA Airways, operating up to a maximum of 90 weekly roundtrip flights between London and its two hubs: Rome Fiumicino and Milan Linate”.
The flights to Milan Linate from LCY are in addition to BA CityFlyer’s weekly service to Milan Linate Airport (LIN) on Sundays.
ITA Airways will operate a single-aisle aircraft that seats 125 passengers, featuring large seats, plenty of overhead storage space and large windows. The aircraft is painted in Italy’s distinctive blue colours and is the first time ITA Airways has operated with its own livery since rebranding last year.
LCY is London’s most central airport and known internationally for punctuality, speed of service and award-winning customer experience.
Last year, LCY scooped two Best UK airport honours, as well as being recognised by Which? as providing the quickest airport security experience. In 2023, LCY was cited in Time Out as the most efficient airport in the UK.
